Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Overview

The sheer starkness of the Atacama Desert is one of awe-inspiring beauty. A landmark of the El Norte Grande, this region boasts an incredible landscape of ragged, rocky mountains, hills and ravines that are interspersed by a striking white salt pan and surrounded by towering volcanoes. It is a photographer’s dream destination.

More Information

As the world’s driest desert, the Atacama lives up to its name, with not a single raindrop recorded in over 150 years. Sitting at an altitude of 3 500 m, the Atacama Desert boasts clear, unpolluted skies that allow for the most incredible, unforgettable stargazing.

Amongst the desolate landscapes you will find the quaint town of San Pedro de Atacama, which serves as a gateway to the desert’s main attractions such as such as the Cejar Ponds (which contain more salt than the Dead Sea and will allow you to float with no effort), the Toconao Village, the Valley of the Moon and the Flamingos National Reserve.

The first impression of Alto Atacama desert lodge & spa is stunning, as the lodge swings into view, blending in seamlessly with its spectacular valley location and a backdrop of orange rock mountains. This lodge prides itself on its cuisine and its service, while its daily menu of excursions is rich and varied, hitting all the highlights of the glorious Atacama Desert. Its 42 guestrooms are spacious and nicely decorated, with a focus on local materials and textiles, as splashes of bright colours mixing in with more earthy tones. Each guestroom has its own private terrace, providing the perfect place for enjoying a glass of wine and watching the constantly changing hues in the valley, or gazing at the magnificent night sky. Its public areas follow a similar rustic but elegant aesthetic, with local handicrafts adorning the walls. Alto Atacama offers three true highlights; an observatory focused more on a sensory experience than a technical one, six outdoor pools, and the superb ‘Puri’ spa, which offers whirlpool baths, and a wide range of spa treatments.
